剪纸，俗称“窗花”，在陕西民间有着悠远而深厚的民间基础，每逢春节、婚庆，各种剪纸便赋予其祥和而生动的文化内涵。陕西民间剪纸有着悠久的历史，《史记》列载“剪桐封弟”即为周朝年间的故事。“汉妃抱娃宫前耍，巧剪梧桐照窗纱”为唐白居易诗剧。1959年在新疆高昌故址中出土的“对马团花”和“对猴团花”是南北朝时期的剪纸作品，是我国至今发现古代最早之作品。陕西民间剪纸以其原始生态艺术特点和蕴涵古文化研究之价值被国内艺术界所瞩目。民俗生活、人物、戏曲、草虫花动物生肖不拘一格，将他们的理想、追求都表达出来，造型夸张、线条质朴、生动、意象万千，而风格独具。当代陕西更始名家辈出，好手云集。
